anyone put a V6 GM motor in a model A frame instead of a V8? I have a small block GM motor mounting points on my frame and was wondering how difficult is would be to change this out to a late model V6 and trans configuration.

I think the mounts for a 4.3 V6 are the same as a SBC, bellhousing pattern is the same also. I'v seen carb'd 4.3's in Model A's. But there not very efficent motors with carbs, EFI, there decent , a 350 would be only slightly worse MPG, WHY?

They are 1/3 the price and no one wants them so I could get one easily.Less likely to be abused and with lower miles.

That's true. My friend got a '91 Blazer 4.3 EFI with 75K on it for 300 bucks about a year back. Just bolt it in, there are places that sell headders for it, and performance parts

Those 4.3 engines are one of the best motors GM ever made, they make good power for the displacement with descent fuel mileage. My dad has one in his 85 Chevy that had around 300,000 miles on it before it needed rebuilt. I have another friend who has one in a 1991 Jimmy that has around 400,000 miles and it is still going strong. I would dare to be different and use a 4.3 V6 instead of a SB Chevy V8, but this is just me.

I think the 4.3 motors are real stout.
They haul *** in a S-10 and your car should be a lot lighter. Try and find a car with the overdrive tranny bolted up as well. Best of both worlds. HG

I once built, and slammed one into a Toyota...





Wasn't any harder or easier than any other project..they all have quirks..

Made good power, Surprised the local Teenie boppers off the line with their "Puffed Ricers" ... sounded good (almost like a powerful V8 ) at idle..had a lopey cam that would shake the car at stops...

And when done looked Almost stock..

i have a 97 s10 ex cab. stock 4.3 (until i took it apart 1 month again) vortech SQ supercharger @ 15psi through a powerstroke intercooler. i'm doing the heads and cam now. it ran a 13.8 at 97, and had problems while doing it. on bfg t/a radials 275-60-15.
