V6 or V8 700R4 swap?

I'm starting a project to transplant a late model Caddi Northstar engine into my '67 Deville. I have read that, with some slight bellhousing modifications, a 700R4 transmission from a S-10 pickup will fit the Northstar. Is there a bolt pattern difference on the S-10 700R4 transmission for V6 as opposed to the V8 S-10? I also read somewhere that there are internal differences between the V6 and V8 S-10 700R4 (more clutch packs in the V8 version). Can somebody verify if this is correct? Also, which year of 700R4 is the better transmission? I was looking for a '88 or newer S-10 model tranny.

Thanks

Kevin Richards

Here is some info on that conversion

You might want to join some of the Caddy forums to get more info. Seems the general consinsus is the S10 V6 is the 700 you need to use. One site mentions cutting and welding in a place in the bellhousing to accomodate the starter on the Northstar. Sounds like fun!!

the small bell 60 degree V-6 700 tranny needs a bolt hole on the bell housing modified / relocated to correctly mate up to the caddy motor.

Northstar/700R4 Adapter

I actually found a website this evening for a place that makes an adapter for the Northstar/700R4 swap, which would solve moving one of the bellhousing bolt holes. I think I'll still have to modify the bellhousing for the Northstar starter, which is mounted in what I call the lifter gallery (small block chevy terms). I've emailed them with a few questions, so hopefully, I will get a response early next week.

Here is their website: http://www.phoenixtrans.com/html/adapters.html
