V6 to V8 mini van ?

I've got a 1989 GMC Safari mini van, with a 4.3 TBI vortec V6, a 700r4 tranny, 3.40 gear's. The tranny is in good shape but the engine has over 150,000 mile's on it, and has a knock in it witch i kinda think that it's a thrust bearing that's knock'in. Was just wonder'in how much work it would take to incorperate an older 355 sbc that's around a 1976 engine. I know that some say the 4.3 V6 is 350sbc with two less cylinder's. Also is there an intake for the 350 sbc that would accept the throtle boddy from the V6, along with a V8 dist. that'ill plug into the electrical system.

This is a popular swap. Get an 88 or newer engine for it. It will have the throttle body all set up on it for you.

ive never seen it but it sounds like a neat swap.
i dont think those vans weigh too much either.
i still like the old 70's vans you used to see around with the beefed up small blocks and sidepipes

Theres a whole forum for V8 swaps in Astros/Safaris on www.astrosafari.com

I've heard that theres more room for a V8 in a Astro than there is a S-10.

Not unless you change the heads too.

Check out a company called Racecraft Conversions....they sell a kit to dothis...or you can just move your motor mounts up three inches on each side.....I plan on doing this myself on an 89 Astro
