The 700 has a very low first gear at 3.06:1. Then it has the largest gear split of any auto tranny on the road since 2nd is 1.63. GM did it to crutch the fact that they put super-high gearing in some vehicles to get lower highway RPM, so they lowered first to recover some of the torque multiplication.

For that reason, 700s are best suited to broad torque curves in lighter cars. You s10 is light enough. I would say... if you want OD, the 200-4r is a better choice up to 350 lb-ft. The 700 is fine as long as you're not looking for max acceleration. It will be fine in a daily driver.

350 would be OK, but to get a good street performance gearing you'll be spinning pretty fast on the highway and MPG will suffer.
