Vacuum Advnace

I am trying to set the advance curve on my 351W in the Mustang, but I am having some problems. The distributor is a stock Duraspark. I have been able to set the centrifugal to 20 degrees full in at 3000 rpm. When I connect the vacuum, total advance goes off the chart - I'm guessing past 55 degrees with the 14 degree initial. How can I limit the vacuum advance to ten degrees or thereabouts? With that much total advance it does concern me that maybe it's TOO much.

Are you sure you need the vacuum advance??
My 289, mechanical is all in 2800rpm, with 16*
initial, for a total or 36*. Seems to run just
fine all the way to redline. When I hooked
up the vacuum advance, to ported vacuum, not
manifold vacuum, it rattles and pings rather
badly. So I plugged of the port...
