Vacuum diagram help

I need help with the vacuum on my truck. Now I have a 82 chev 3/4 ton that had a 6.2 diesel in it. I got it with a 350, and put another 350 in it. I put in a 68 camaro 350 but I have a hei distributer. I have no vacuum hooked up to the vacuum advance on the distributer, buecause when I hook it up to the carb, the diaphram on the distributer pops with reving the engine. I only have a vacuum from the tranny to the manifold, and from the pcv to the carb. I also have a vacuum from my carb to a vacuum unit for my heater controls. I need to know what the proper vacuum or best for my truck would be. Ohhh I am using a rochester quadra-jet carb and I have a edelbroc performer manifold. Thanks

Doc here,

Please Clarify, When you say "Pops" Do you mean it spits fire out the intake or Exhaust..OR the distributer makes a metallic noise?

Two very different issues.

Doc

distributer makes a noise. It sounds like it is comming from the vacuum on the distributer. When I disconected the vacuum from the carb to the distributer, the distributer stopped making noise. When I hook it up, it makes a metalic poping from the distributer. So yea it is pretty much a metalic noise at the distributer. I am not sure what the problem is. Sorry if I am being a pest Doc, Thanks

Could it be something rubbing inside the distributor, but only when the vacuum advance is engaged?

I generally prefer manifold vacuum like pre-smog engines had, but from what I hear, some of the HEI's have way more vacuum advance than the older distributors had.
