country gearhead work for dodge dealerships as diesel tech all my life own 74 pontiac ventura custom with 68 400 ys code engine with 4x heads not first hotrod but favorite

Cheap and easy way to do a Pontiac. Place thick 3/8 washer (like the ones on old SBC stock exhaust bolts) between the adjuster nut and rocker ball. This gives you 1/8" more adjust.

add; Push rod length determines where the rocker rides on the valve tip. Usually a trial and error event for the novice. Buy an adjustable pushrod checker and have at it. When the rocker travels across the valve tip the least and stays well centered. Measure the pushrod checker and go from there..

You will be way ahead of the game if you lose the bottleneck studs and use straight studs and polylocks.

But either way, you have to keep the lifter from collapsing, either by using a solid lifter or converting an old hydraulic lifter to solid. Be sure the seat height of the lifters are the same.
