Valve Body Question

Hello All, It has been about 12 years since I worked on A TH 350 Auto trans I was givin a transmission and decided to do an " Fluid Filter" I discovered that the "s" hook in the valve body of my 1978 TH 350 had "Poped" off i have allready dicovered the reason this happened and repaired it but my Question is while looking at a TH 350 vavle body facing up there is a Spool or shifter valve ( I may be using the wrong term) that attaches with an "s" hook to linkage looking at the Spool do the grooves face Up or down? I hope i explained this question correctly THANKS.

It's been a long time since I've done a 350, but I don't remember it making any difference.

I'm sure someone will correct me here if that is not the case.

I am not sure what grooves you speak of.

the S hook will only install correctly one way , so the linkage operates the manual valve in the v-body.
