Valve covers.

I just realized that I bought the wrong valve covers for my application. I will be running stud girdles, and just realized that I ordered valve covers with baffles in them, and there is no clearance for them (doh!) What I'm curious about is where I can find some valve covers (I like the fabricated look) that have breather holes, but no baffles!

I was looking at these:

or:

How hard would it be to get them drilled for breather holes? Thanks!

I don't know if I'd be investing that much money in covers to hack 'em up. Edelbrock makes tall die-cast aluminum covers for a lot less money. They also have to be hacked up for breathers, but the initial investment is palatable, 98 bucks for polished or 74 bucks for black. Get the breathers/tubes you plan to use and cut holes in the covers with the appropriate size holesaw chucked up in your 3/8 drill motor. Here are instructions from Edelbrock of how to install baffles in their covers....

And here are the covers.....

Thanks tech, I may do that. I called up billetfabs.com and requested a quote from them. They have a set for $350 that are fabricated, and they will drill the holes for me. Still a bit expensive though. Has anyone ever used them before?

$350 for valvecovers?? :drunk: You should look on ebay. You can get nice fabs for (much) less with or without holes.

I got some tall Summit aluminum valve covers for $49.95, install the baffles if you wish.

Make sure you buy ones made by someone in USA like a local machine shop kinda guy, that's what I did. Just a little harder to find for centerbolt heads.

Looks like a good deal, but I just can't get over the fact of the price difference. The pictures look great, but why is there such a price gap between ones that Moroso sells, and are pretty much the exact same thing? I don't mind spending extra money for better quality.

I purchased a set from billetfabs.com for 650.

The tube retainers would not work, no tubes would work, the rails would not seal, the owner admitted they were defective and told me thay had been updated.

I could buy another set...

Must be nice to have a spare $650 just laying around just waiting to be spent on valve covers. I'd be sending the bum ones back, and demanding a new set of the updated ones. After all, money doesn't grow on trees....

In a while, Chet.

Thanks for the heads up. Any recommendations?

I have bought many items from this ebay seller and all the quality of parts I have received have been top notch, just my 2 cents

staleg 11-12-2008 01:25 PM

I have bought from him too. A ministarter for $65. For the price level it is not made in USA of course.
I had to shim it a little back from the starter billet block. And the enclosed mounting bolts was not real starter bolts, so i changed them. Not top notch in other words, but at least the starter worked properly after that and it sound very strong. I didn't expect much for that price anyway. Just thought I'd give it a try.

The seller have very good feedback on Ebay. And over at the thirdgen.org forum there are several user that recommends him too.

But Summit Racing do also sell fabricated valve covers way ceaper than $650.
I like that style a lot my self!
