Just bought a 350 for my F1 pickup but it has chrome valve covers which look pretty c**p. I have an old set of covers from a much older engine with Chevrolet written in script which I would like to use. Trouble is, they don't have any breather or oil filler holes. I was thinking of fitting a pipe between both valve covers and teeing off a single breather but would there be enough clearance at the front of the engine once everything is re fitted and would it work?
The rocker covers you have were made for the early CHEV open emissions sytem, either early PCV or road draft tube.
You can externally vent them, but you are going to have to put holes in them. You might consider finding an early SBC (if carbed) intake manifold that has the provisions of oil fill/inlet breather on the front and a PCV hole on the rear.
This kit (with or w/o rocker covers) is available from MOROSO.
If you don't want to cut them, a set off a 85/86 TPI looks nice and will have the necessary holes.
Many thanks Kultulz. I think I'll try to make up something similar to the kit from Moroso but then again.......................
