Valve Covers

Opinions on this set of Edelbrock valve covers (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-4495/)?

I'm looking for a decent looking cover that isn't insanely expensive. They seem to be a little on the cheap side. Am I getting a deal with these, or are they cheap for a reason?

Well yes they are cheap because they are most likely Chinese made and just chrome. You can find the same thing on ebay (might not say Edelbrock)....ok, I just looked on ebay, punch in "mopar valve covers" and you will find 683 matches. Every kind of v/c you could dream of...and a lot cheaper....good luck

Look for cast aluminum or fabricated aluminum if you can afford it, much sturdier than chrome plated steel, lot less chance for having a leak.

Aluminum covers have more rigid flanges and with a good rubber gasket they will seal well. Chromed or painted steel covers with perimeter bolts have more flexible flanges, and when overtightened they bend and become harder to get a good seal.

Some of the newer engines use center bolt covers, so you have more even pressure pushing down in the middle and sealing the perimeter of the cover to the head. I don't know if that style of cover is available as a retrofit for Mopar engines.

Thanks for your help guys. The aluminum ones seem to be a little out of my price range though. I'll be sure to not overtighten the bolts.

Don't know where the Edelbrocks come from. You can buy the Chinese chrome valve covers at the big swap meets for as cheap as $10.00 a set.
