Can someone help me with the valve lash on a sbc 400 hydro lifters stock rockers .

If you set the lash with the engine running make sure you buy some oil clips that go over the top of the rocker arm to control the oil. Otherwise you'll have a big mess

I set my valves initially, with the engine out, by going to TDC on #1, using the "spin the pushrod" method. You can set both valves. Then rotate the engine 1/4 turn and adjust #8. After that rotate the engine 1/4 turns and follow the firing order.

After the engine is running, I set them again. Loosen each rocker until the rocker "clacks". Then slowly tighten until the clacks stop and go another 1/2 turn (some say 3/4 turn).

You'll probably not enjoy the smoke on the exhaust manifolds (I remove the battery from the smoke detector), but that's part of being a gearhead.

sometimes i wonder what the neibhors are thinking when i am under the hood working and its smoking oil on the headders hehe
