Back off the rockers and start over. When you get to the point of the push rod no longer spins, give it a little less than 1/2 turn. I`m not sure if your book is instructing correctly, but know the lifter must be on it`s base circle when you adjust the rocker, if it`s in a lift position the adjustment will be off.
I don`t adjust them this way, I always adjust them with the vehicle running. I adjust them until the ticking goes away, then I give them 1/2 turn in slow increments.
