Actually, Larry, did you ever check the valve to piston clearence when you dropped that Edel cam. Thats exactly why I asked because the insert in the Edel box said to check that.

not yet, still waiting on my pistons......

IMO, the easiest way to check piston to valve clearance is to.....
assemble the rotating assembly.

place an 1/8" thick piece of modeling clay on top of your pistons.

oil the clay well and oil the surfaces on the head well too to prevent the clay from sticking...

torque your heads in place. ( with pushrods) (don't ask)

rotate the crank 4 full revolutions.

remove the heads and measure the clay at its thinnest point. that is your piston to valve clearance.....you can use a dial caliper or several feeler gages stacked up to measure this....

oh yeah, do this with solid lifters, so it'll read right.

the book i have sez as a GENERAL rule, you should have @ last 0.080" clearance from valve to piston..........

How do you pro's do it????

A little tip if you got 4 eyebrow pistons criss/cross two strips of clay in an X with each end covering an eyebrow. You'll feel like an *** if ya pull the head and theres no indentations cause ya clayed the wrong side of the valve reliefs. Not that I've done that LOL.
