valve seal question

hello, please help i bought a64 impala 327 it ran fine for 600 miles all of a sudden smokes like frieght train /blue smoke/ black sometimes 41.000 original miles /supposedly/ my question is can valve seals deteriorate bad enough to smoke severely? car sat for 2 yrs.maybe more alsothroughs oil out oil filler tube no pcv how,s it breath ? cracked rings? i wound it out hard couple times still run,s like hell but smokes big time thanks i,ll heed your advice

Chances are, if this is engine has not been rebuilt it will have oring seals on the valve stems. These o-rings provide minimal seal at best, on a older engine they are probably cracked and/or broken off. This can cause excessive oil consumption. However if oil is coming out of the blow by tube then I think you may have bigger problems. Possibly a cracked or broken oil control ring or the engine may be just cooked and in need of a rebuild. The rings may have lost their tension or they may have been rusted to the cylinder wall.

black smoke running too rich,fix that, then worry about blue smoke,it may not be as bad, check plugs

sitting two yrs. would dry out the rubber valve seals whether they are oring or umbrella.

smoked minimal blue at first when irevved it up. the rebuilt rochester is screwed up and smoked black. went to 110 mph twice didn,t seem to hurt it still minimal smoke. wound it out hard in low range went to drive 4500 rpm maybe more smoked bad after that i know i shouldn,t haveran it hard but i WILL DEFINEITLY not have an engine that i have to baby gone to get a compression guage gotta start somewhereTHANKS GUYS
