Valve Spring Compressor tool

hey guys, been a while since I'v been on here. Borrowed a spring compressor from a buddy of mine, type that threads onto your stud and has a claw foot on the end. I'v having one hell of a time with my new springs, as I compress it as far as the tool will allow but the spring is bending and not leaving enough room for the retainers, vortec heads, alex springs retainer and locks.

So I tried the stock vortec spring, shorter and weaker than my new springs and it worked. So I'm wondering if you guys ever have this problem and what tool would be the best for heads off compressing springs? I thought about building something cause every penny counts right now. I have a slew of things I need to get for my engine still but just wanted to springs on the heads and check the heights.

any help would be appreciated.

Here is a picture of a compressor I made out of a C-Clamp. Works great.

thanks guys, just wasn't if this is a common problem for this style compressor. Glad I didn't buy it because that is the one I had my eye on.
