valve spring retainer question

Can I run 1.550" OD valve springs under 1.50" spring retainers? I found a place that has titanium 1.50" retainers for eighty bucks a set, and since its only thirty bucks more than the steel ones I figured I'd give em a go. Its on a street car that won't see more than 6500 RPM's but I figured it still helps valvetrain control and I will be running .595" lift.

Yes, Retainer O.D. can be .100 smaller than the springs. Reduces weight. Keep the spring to retainer clearance as close as possible without binding.
I asked a question a while back about the recommended spring to retainer clearance but never got a definite answer. I've looked at some of Comp's spring & retainer combos & they seem to be all over the place clearance wise.

It is not a good idea to use, used titanium retainers unless you know what spring pressures they held and their total time of use. Even one run fuel retainers can be shot. One race nascar units ARE shot.

You have to match the steps on the retainers to the id of the springs you are using, also. You also need to know if they are even, plus, or minus keeper loation for spring height. The keeper angle and size, is also important and not interchangeable.

these are new units, not used. And the spring supplier is th eone also supplying the retainers. I sent them an email questioning them but I haven't heard from them yet. I'll ask them directly but I like to an idea what's going on before I get tech help. Sometime I realize people are just going to say anythign to sell a part and I don't want to fall victim to that.
