Valve Spring Seat Question

1 Attachment(s)
I'm trying to install 1.44" springs on my Sprotsman II chevy heads. The spring seats are cut out for up to 1.55", but there is a lip around the outer edge that is probably 1.4" in diameter, which also raises the floor around .060". This lip doesn't allow the spring to sit on solid metal at all points, and therefore it can sit a little cooked. I'm worried that this will put unwanted stress on the valve guide. Should I try to get some spring locators or shims or just just install the springs as is? I am NOT going to get this machined though.

You can fill in the area with the proper size hardened spring shim.

From looking at your picture I would run some kind of locator even if that means machining the spring seat again so it will fit properly.
If you dont keep spring from moving around the inner spring is going to start chewing up the teflon seal.
Check out Crowers online catalog they have a pretty good selection of cutters and spring seats.

Well I took them to a local speedshop this morning and they didn't have any shims or retainers that would fit right. I ended up having the seats machined to fit the spring while I waited. So much for my resolve not to do that lol.
