valve springs

i have a 80 chevy truck with a 305 in it. i am about to put a holley carb, edelbrock performer intake, headers and a summit racing brand cam in it with z28 valve springs on it i believe they have a .550 lift cam max. My question is a guy up at work told me that if i put on springs that i will have to put on performance rockers and pushrods to. or i will crack a rocker arm or shoot a pushrod though the valve covers. the two cams i would like to go with is
Cam Style: Hydraulic flat tappet
Basic Operating RPM Range: 1,500-4,000 RPM
Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift: 204
Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift: 214
Duration at 050 inch Lift: 204 int./214 exh.
Advertised Intake Duration: 262
Advertised Exhaust Duration: 272
Advertised Duration: 262 int./272 exh.
Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.420
Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.442
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.420 int./0.442 exh. lift
Lobe Separation (degrees): 112
AND
Brand: Summit
Product Line: Summit Cam and Lifter Kits
Cam Style: Hydraulic flat tappet
Basic Operating RPM Range: 2,000-4,500 RPM
Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift: 214
Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift: 224
Duration at 050 inch Lift: 214 int./224 exh.
Advertised Intake Duration: 272
Advertised Exhaust Duration: 282
Advertised Duration: 272 int./282 exh.
Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.442
Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.465
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.442 int./0.465 exh. lift
Lobe Separation (degrees): 112

which one would you recommended so that i could just buy springs instead of rocker arms and pushrods. or is the guy pulling my leg.
thanks for the help

In my opinion, he's pulling your leg. The Z28 spring is just a tad better over stock and is used all the time with great results on modest cams. With either cam selection, you should be fine with stock rockers and rods. Or spend a few more bucks and get full roller rockers and some tall valve covers to shave off a little friction and gain a few more ponies.

either one of those cams will be good in the 305. a 305 flows the best at around .440" of lift.
