Valve Stem Seals

Could a rocker not sitting central on a valve stem cause excessive side loading of a valve stem, causing valve stem seals to become leaky?

Yes. As the valve opens the contact point moves across the tip of the valve. You want the rocker arm to be centered on the valve at the mid point of valve lift.

2 rockers at the moment don't sit nicely in the center. But i'm afraid to undo my screw in studs on these to adjust my guide plates in oreder to get my rockers aligned, as I don;t know if the engine builder loctited these in, and I don't want to snap them in the head. I've tried to loosen them, but there EXTREMELY tight.
