I pulled the valve covers today to krinkle paint them and noticed that there was a color difference on the top left in one of the heads. The bottom pic. Is this a sign of a valve seal issue. Can I get the car running first and deal with the issue later as a winter project. It's a t-bucket build so it won't be too much trouble.
Looks like burnt oil to me, from what I can make out of your picture.
Several things come to mind.
It's way to hot in that area causing the oil to burn. Plugged cooling passages in the head possibly.
Lack of lubrication in that area causing extra heat causing the oil to burn.
Does not look like it would be much trouble to pull the camshaft hold downs and see what the bearing surfaces look like.
