vdo speedometer

i installed a vdo speedo andd the odometer reads 99999 how do i repair this

Is it the trip odometer or the total miles driven? Also, have you programmed it yet? If you haven't programmed it yet, that can be the pulse number "hanging" - and you need to start over. Just a note - some of these are not user friendly as mine had to be programmed using pulse numbers rather then a mileage drive which no matter how many times I tried, would not set correctly.
