Are Vega and Camero steering boxes diffrent ?

Is there a diffrence between a 74ish Vega manual steeringbox and a 68 Camero manual box ?I need one for the 55 Chevy I am building and I can get a deal on a Camero one where as a Vega box cost a small fortune .

Yep there is a difference. The Camaro one is probably larger and heavier. The Vega box is popular among street rodders because of its small size....that makes it easier to fit in narrow guage cars like A-models and Deuces etc. and not interfere with headers etc. etc. You may have enough room on your car to use a Camaro box.....but I do not know that for sure. You will just have to do some measureing and figuring.

I remember that the Camaro box had a longer input shaft coming out of the box than the stock Vega box, at least for the manual steering box. Except for that one detail the two boxes look similar, including the mounting bracket (better check to be sure though) so you may be able to use it on your '55 project. The Camaro and the Nova shared the same box in some years but it was not the same as the Vega box.

They are completely different. The Vega box was a much smaller unit unique to the H-body cars (Vega, Astra, and Monza derivatives). The Camaro uses the same Saginaw box as on virutally every other GM ever made.
