As much diesel fuel as I go through in a month in this truck (Freightliner semi truck) and with the clear fuel filter, I see this quite often, much more so with higher biodiesel blends.

The color of the stuff in the filter starts out somewhat greenish brown then eventually turns black, I go through a fuel filter every 2 to 3 months, but thats running around 2000-3000 gallons through each one.

You didn't use the old one you tossed behind the garage last year did you?

I heard of 'mexican diesel' before but thought it was a joke - that's where they put the green into the fuel tanks to smuggle. It is said to always have a diesle odor hence the name.

You know you said someone tried to steal your rims, Have you pissed someone off? Maybe stealing your rims was not all they were doing to your ride. Could have been adding something to your tank also, Just a thought maybe you never know. Cole

Ok,,here it is,,,,there is this little insect,,,called,,,the leaf-roller fly,,,it's about the size of a large gnat,,,what this nasty thing does,,is it rolls up small pieces of leaves,,,and places them in out of the way places in order to lay it's eggs,,,I know this, because they really liked my Q-jet in one of my trucks,,,don't ask me how they get in the fuel system,,,but they do,,,after they lay their eggs they die,,,and proceed to leave all this crap in the carb, fuel lines,,,where ever. The only thing you can do,,,when they are doing their thing,,,I guess it depends on the season,,,is to keep your air filter covered and whatever else on the engine,,,where they can gain access,,,I had problems for about 2 weeks and then they go away,,,now I'm not saying this is your problem,,,,but it sure sounds familiar,,,good luck

Around these parts, wasps will make "nests" (actually, mud plugs w/a paralyzed spider or two and an egg) in any exposed hose, hole or suitable orifice. So the idea that insects have done the deed is totally feasible, IMO.

Possibly while the engine was out and the various fuel and vapor lines were exposed, insects nested and/or laid eggs. The difference is that "your" bug has a thing for vegetation as opposed to mud.
