Sorry, but those numbers do not relate to any info I have on U.S. built 47-48 Olds. 47 and 48 models were- 66, 76, 68, 78,and 98. The S/N should start with the model number followed in most cases by a letter that denotes the point of origin. Some cars built in Lansing, Mich. did not have a letter. Did Canada have an Olds plant??

None of those numbers came back with useable information to any 1940's Oldsmobile as far as I could find either.
I also looked in the 1950's, with no results. |

I am going to go through the car again and see if i can find any other numbers anywhere on the car. It is totally complete and original. This is really strange and i don,t understand it.
The car has oldsmobile name plates all over it and the original hub caps even. From all the pics i have seen of the car it is either a 47-48. Would it make a differance if it was built in Canada? Also , where are you searching out the numbers for the info? I really have to thank you for all the help |

Between 1946 and 1960, according to the site I will give a link to below, there were NO Oldsmobiles manufactured in Canada, as there are no plant codes indicating so. 1946 through 1960 Oldsmobile information. |

I have two old books that I get my info from, one by Motors and one by Chilton. Both say the location of the S/N for a 46-47 is on the upper left corner of dash under the hood. Foe a 48-56 it is located on the left front door hinge post. Both also agree on the info I gave you. The fact that it is a 6 cyl. rules out it being later than a 50 if it is the stock engine. The engine number is located on the upper left corner of the block. 40,41, and 42 should start with the letter G, 46 -50 should start with 6.

I was replying as a general rule with Canadian made cars & trucks that they would be different.. what he could have it a VIN tag that was replaced by a DMV of whatever state, then the numbers have no meaning w/any codes the factory may have given it....joe |

I want to thank everyone very much for all the help they have given my daughter and myself.
I will checking the car out again this weekend and will check other places mentioned for other numbers. Maybe if the car was built in the states and then shipped here to Ontario, for some reason the vin number was changed, But thanks everyone so much |

NO PROBLEM thats why I'm here, to help anyone I can. Personally I had NO IDEA if GM ever made Oldsmobiles in Canada but figgered they did. Then I remembered ORACLE was a GM Historian & figgered if any one would know or could find the info he could, so I asked. Hell we all learned something new today, including ME |
