vehicle serial numbers

I am in the process of 'hot rodding' a classic 4x4 truck and was unsure of a few things. If i was to keep the original body, which i intend to, and replaced the frame and drivetrain, is there a place i could go to get a new serial number for the finished product, if i could combine the numbers from the vin plate on the cab and the new drivetrain? I intend to register it as antique. anybody know anything? what can you tell me? thanks.

The process of titling a vehicle varies widely from state-to-state. You didn't tell us where you're located, so we can't provide useful information. The link below provides titling information for all 50 states, so start there. Many states have enacted street rod/custom vehicle rules that allow you to secure a DMV-issued VIN on a custom-built vehicle like the one you describe. Again, check the link below and your local DMV. Nearly every state DMV now has titling requirements available on line.

do you have original title? I would start there. No title, lots more paperwork, no matter what state you reside in.
