vertex electronic distributor
I recently purchased a vertex electronic distributor from Taylor Cable.
I cannot get this thing to work, Car starts but spark is very weak you can see it across the ballast resistor and feel it when driving also its hard to restart you have to turn the key and play with it or it starts when you let go of the key. I am replacing a Petronex setup running a Ron Francis wiring harness. The car I have built from scratch chassis set rear trans all the pluming engine 383 stroker with Weinad super charger so I have some knowledge as to what I'm doing. Twice I have given up and put in back in the box reinstalled the Pertronix setup. Car has about 3500 miles on it so everything is pretty new. Any ideas? or this just a 700$ paper weight? |

I agree with 327, give Taylor a call. It could be a bad ground. If you have a gasket between the body of the distributor and the block, as most do, grounding may be inadequate....
Is this the HEI Vertex Magneto look-alike distributor? I have one on my Hemi right now that I am also changing out. It's a nice looking thing, but it cannot be used with an ignition box and the advance curve cannot be changed. This was the word directly from Taylor.... Hope this helps, Steve |
