Yes it could be the balancer, never thought about that. It doesnt matter about the speed at around 3000 rpm I get the vibration. Is there different types of balancers?/ Does it matter? Thanks for your help

Did you recently change the balancer? Does it feel like a engine vibe or what? I would definatly try the wheel balancing first.

yes a 454 uses an externally balanced part, if you use a 396-427 balancer on the motor it will definately shake, hard on bearings also.

Depending how much vibration, your exhaust could be vibrating against the body or frame.

Its always the last thing you changed.

I was driving down the freeway the other day with my truck which has always amazed me at how well it all came together. I felt this vibration, so bad that I pulled off the road and did the look over. Couldn't find anything wrong. Took it home and put it up on blocks and looked it over...came up with nothing. Drove it on the freeway, a different route, nothing. Drove to the place where I had the vibration before and had it again. I think it was the road surface.

the 454 has a history of the Harmonic balancer outer ring slipping and throwing the motor out of balance. Check it out. If it is and you run it very long like that, look for a broken crank..Seen it happen.....glennK

One thing that is not mentioned is the fan. If it is a clutch fan, this could be symbolic of clutch going bad, And while you are checking the fan, look for cracked blades that are starting to flutter at near the same RPM.

'nother possibility is drive train alignment. Does it happen more when you're changing speeds? More slowing or more speeding up? If either of these its a pretty simple fix.

If its happening at the same RPM no matter what gear you're in it has to be something forward of the tranny. Balancer is a very good bet.
