vibrations & noise

I have just installed a new polished alum alternator on my sbc , at mid to high RPM the car will vibrate & have a winy grinding noise , when I take the belt off the alt & run the car , the problem is not there, I am using a different belt than before this is a gator back , any ideas.

Nice Ride... I love Vega's ...If possible, put the old alt. back on and see if prob. still persists. Or go with a standard belt on new alt.
