We had a 1937 Chevy pickup, and the tag was located in the engine compartment on the firewall on the passenger side. Cole

I just had the same problem on a '37 coupe. There was a body tag on the right cowl side and two holes above it, like there should have been another tag there (presumably the serial number).

The VIN on the title turned out to be the engine serial number which is stamped into the block near the base of the distributor.

Hope this helps.

your title should tell you the VIN. But what the others are showing you really isn't the VIN. They didn't use VIN's back then. A lot of times the number came off of the engine so you might check that number against your title. They did match up engines and bodies but in the midwest it was common to replace truck cabs that were full of rust.
