VIN number

Anybody got any ideas on this one ???
I just got a 1947 GMC 3/4 pickup and I can't find the VIN#. I looked under the floor mat on the right and the number there dosen't match the paper work and the cowl tag doesn't either. I can't find any numbers on the frame or any added tags. HELP !!!!!!!! This truck does not have the original engine and the Caddy engine number doesn't match. I don't know where to look next.

The number under the floor matt should be the serial number. Does it match the number on the body tag on the cowl? You may have the wrong paper work.

I have a couple of similar vintage Chevy trucks and the titles used the engine serial number instead of the VIN. Be careful, since this causes a problem when you swap engines.

Vin#

Yeah I am afraid that might be the case. That and the fact that in this state they like to assign numbers when they cant find the originals. I am not giving up. I will continue to research this truck and try to find out some more history on it. Might be that an old owner is still out there that knows where the number on the title came from.
Thanks all. Shorty

Take your paperwork to a title service and see what they can do for you.
The VIN for your truck was the original engine number which is a gone goose now, right?
The Title Service people know the ins and outs of getting these things done and you get a problem free title. Oh there may be procedures and bonds and so forth involved but they take care of it, not you.
Give it a look, you may be pleasantly surprised and not very deflated in teh wallet departemnt either.

Vin #

It has been suggested to me to take the truck to the CHP and have the vin verified. Since the truck has been out of the system for over ten years, then I can apply for a lost title. ????? Any one done this before???????

I did this with my 36 Ford. If you know a cop you may be able to talk him into coming over to your house to verify the #.
