Our fire company has a ford business cpe that was donated and restored by the local vo tech school we lost the title and we are trying to find the VIN number the data plate on the floor board is missing a few of the first couple numbers or letters and anyone tell me how the number should start or where we could find the numbers.

No VIN Number on early Fords. They were registered by the engine serial number. The frame had the same number as the engine number stamped on them. There is no data plate on the floorboards, so I don't know what you are looking at in that location. Here is a link to Ford serial number info and locations. Ford Serial Numbers

Thank you for your help when I got the opportunity to look at the car they had given me the wrong information it was actually a chevy, but I was able to get the serial number off of the last inspection sticker.

The Fords are stamped on the top of the frame rail ahead of the firewall on the driver's side, halfway back on the frame rail under where the body sits and on the rear crossmember. I'm told that the Chevies are stamped on the riser where the seat mounts on the passenger side.
