Vin Number Location on a 68 Chevelle SS

I was wondering where the vin number location is a 68 chevelle SS? A friend of mine bought a this chevelle from florida (were in california) and he is having trouble trying to find the vin number. I've looked and cannot find any info on where the vin may be.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

68 Chevelle Vin Location

The location of the Vin should be located on the top of the dash, front edge on drivers side at the base of the windshield. Stand by the drivers door and look at the front edge of the dash and it is right there. Some times dash covers and trash or rust may obstruct view of number. Note that there should only be 13 numbers and letters. The chevelle should start with
1(chevrolet
3837 (SS Coupe)
8 (year 1968)
Assembly plant is a letter (one letter for location)
Last six digits are basic production numbers.

Good luck

I think 68 was before they put it on the dash. It should be under the hood on the drivers side close to the windshield. They are held on with 2 rivets that can be drilled out so its not too hard to change the vin and cover up a car theft. Thats why they moved them. I dont think they are really on the dash but look that way. I think the dash has a cut out in the front that goes around the vin plate. The plate is really on the fire wall. They also use a special rivet that only car makers can obtain. I cant swear to all of this as its too cold to go out and look but I think thats the way it is.

All 68 models had vin on the dash.
There are covert places on the chassis with the vin.
God help anybody who has a car with those places altered.
