VIN question

Can anyone tell me where to locate the engine #'s on a Ford 351. I'm trying to determin if this is a small or big block, or, if it's a windser, cleveland or modified. the only #'s I can see are by the water pump which are 3C 8G. It's in a 36 Ford so I'm not sure of the year either.

on a ford the numbers are on the side of the block under the exhaust manifold. also if it has a separate timing cover case, it is not a Cleveland or a modified. if it has a timing cover that is part of the block, and has square castings on top of the timing cover, it's a modified. keep us posted.
