VIN stamped on Chevy frame or urban legend?

Does anyone know if GM stamped vin serial numbers on frames of 40-48 chevy cars? I'm going to clean my frame and was wondering. I've heard of this but have not seen it. Would anyone know the location if they did do this on a 1941 Chevy?
Thanks,
TT66'

VIN stamped on Chevy frame or urban legend?

As far as I know 40 and 41 chevies serial numbers were in the same place as this link will show you:

As well, the old car manual project site has a wealth of information on early chevs. This link is to the index page:

VIN on '41

I'm in the process of doing a frame off restoration on my 41 and the only place the VIN was located was on the plate underneath the carpet on the passenger side of floor board.

I looked everywhere, as in Calif. DMV must verify the number before they will transfer Title. Mine came from out of State so they were real picky.

vin location on 38 2dr sedan

I have a 38 2dr sedan that I'm building and when I had the body of I saw numders and letters stamped on frame, just not in any kind of order. I don't think they coresponded to the numbers on the cowl tag. I have a title but it is from out of state and that means a physical inspection. I don't want any surprises when that happens so I need to find out where it is located to make sure I'm la git. I had the same trouble with my 34 chev coupe but was able to talk to some people who told me where it was and I got thru with no trouble. Boy was that a relief!!! You never know with those state people, they can be pretty uncooporttive. If anyone can say for sure where to look please let me know. thanks

On my '41, the VIN Plate is under the passenger side carpet, front seat.

On my '57 Chevy truck the VIN is stamped in several places along the top of the driver's side frame rail near the steering box and back to the cab.

The only numbers I could find on my 41 frame were dates near the rear of the main frame rails. I am assuming they were either the date the rail was stamped or had the bottom plate welded on. IIRC, the dates did not match side to side.
