I'm just wondering about the dual sports and dirt bikes from the 70s, and the big question I have is "are there any differences between the dual sport (enduro) bikes and the trail bikes, outside of lights/other street legal stuff and maybe a little less suspension travel?"
Thanks,

The differences between the off road trail bikes (not
trials bikes- they're a different breed for low speed rock crawling, etc.) and the street-legal dual purpose "Enduro"-type bikes were in things like the charging system capacity and street legal accessories like lights, horn, and blinkers after about '71.
Now if you were comparing the Enduro bikes to
motocross bikes, the same differences apply, along w/suspension quality and travel like you mentioned, and radically different engine tune. The cylinders of the 2-stroke MX bikes were ported way more for the top end than the Enduro bikes were, and had gear ratios, carb sizes, etc. aimed at a lot more top end HP.
