vintage snomobile tach to ues with my v8?

i know it sounds crazy but a a local vintage sled show i ran across 2 vintage snomobile tachs and thought they would look real neat in my truck. the guys i bought them from clamed they worked, and for $6 for the 2 of them, i figured i couldnt go wrong. iv never wired a tach before and dont know if they would even work but w.t.h. lol one is a "vdo" for a moto ski. all electric with spaid termanals for gnd, ignition coil and 12v and the other is "nippon seiki japan" for a kawasaki.it just has a red and a black wire with 2 mounting studs and 2 insulated studs that might b for coil? just tell me what u think or if im just crazy. will post pix later

All the tachometer does is count ignition, or other electrical pulses. For a V-8 engine, four ignition pulses, equals one engine revolution.
If by chance, if one of the snowmobile tachometers was used on a sled with an engine that makes four ignition pulses per revolution, it might work.

I believe some Mercury outboards use a signal from the flywheel magneto to create a signal for the tachometer. Snowmobiles might do the same.

these are going to be 1 or 2cyl. 2 stroke motors. No idea on the years (probably 1970s), but we had a 295 Motoski (I think they were owned by SkiDoo then and the motor was a Rotax. Anyway; I doubt they'll work. Cool find though. Buff em up and put em on eBay; you'll get your money back I'm sure. Look for pictures of Motoski Futuras and Sonics, see if they match your tach. For the Kawasaki, I think it was the Invader.
