Vintge Gasser question

Looking for what year F-100 ford I-beam front axles where used in the "gasser" heyday. I also understand that Ford van axles where used also. What years? Thanks, cb1

F-100 I-beams would be '53-'64. They also used F-1 axles from 48-52. I think you might have more luck finding an econline. These early trucks are getter pretty scarce.

BTW cb1, if you are shopping around for old Ford trucks around Eagle River and you run into any 65-79 2WD with V8's, I'm ALWAYS in the market for them. I'm in Lac du Flambeau. Just PM me if you get a line on one.

Bobcrman,

I think the econolines had a straight axle up to 68 (and they began in 61). Also the 61-68 Falcon Van and Club Van had a straight axle (but might be difficult finding one of those).

Back in the early 60's the gasser guys all used the Ecoline axels. For the life of me I can't figure out why. Especially when the tube axels were made right here in town and were considerably lighter. I think it was follow the leader as a lot of things were back them. They were cheap in the junk yards ...probably around $15 with the brakes and all.

We were no different...we had a @#$% Ford axel on our dragster like everyone else. Why we spent all day hole sawing the holes in it I don't know. We had about 3 pounds of slugs when we were done. Then We added 25 pounds of lead to the front to keep the front end on the ground. How did we ever progress???
