Visual difference between 8.5 & 8.2 rearends?
Trying to help a buddy find a good 8.5 rear end to fit into a stock '67 Chevelle that currently has an 8.2 rear. What are some identifying marks to look for when going to the junk yards etc? What other years and models might also fit this car? Thanks in advance, Larry

I have heard that only a few late-in-the-model-year 1972 Chevelles & Monte Carlos came with 8.5" rears, and since pre-'73 units are the only ones that will bolt in, you may be looking long and hard. You might luck out and find a 12-bolt, though, with a similar wave on the cover as an 8.2, but with 12 bolts on the cover and ring gear.
