volkswagen bearing problems

i have a dune buggy with the irs transaxle in it and i don't have the outer bearing for the rear torsion bar. Is it possible to remove the spacer from the stubshaft and just have the same bearing on the outside and the inside? I have 2 of the inner bearing and they would be large enough were it could ride on the shaft. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

i wouldnt suggest using the inner bearings as outer bearings

inner bearings are just designed to take the load of the 1/2 shaft trying to tq out of place under power

outerbearing would see the same load ...PLUS they have to support the weight of the car as its going down the road, landing from a jump and cornering

its possible that inner and outers are designed just as stong as each other and that inners would survive as outers

its also quite possible that outers are designed MUCH stronger, and that inners would fail when asked to do their job

hoping that they will survive is risking the destruction of the dune buggy and your body too

how much are replacement outers ?

the outer bearing aren't much less than 10 dollars i think, but its the hassle of having to order them from oklahoma city (i live about 3 miles away from oklahoma-kansas state line) and my dad was just wanting me to get it out of the barn so he could get his planter in there. My dad went ahead and ordered the bearing today after he found out it wouldn't work. thanks for the help
