Voltage reg. bypass

Working on the final details of this engine transplant in my 62 Impala.
Two part question. I am converting the generator to an 3 wire internaly reg alternator. What to I do with the wirering at the old external
voltage regulator and generator? What is the best way to wire the alternator? So far the two big red wires I went direct to the battery and the small brown one will go to my voltage gage. Is this correct?

Second question, where do I pick up 12vdc to feed the HEI. Do I pick it up from the starter solinoid like it was with the old I235 point system?
