Vortec 350 cam, intake and carb choice

I have a factory stock 1998 350 Vortec long block which does not need to be rebuilt.I am putting it in my 31 model A coupe with a 700R4 and 9" rear with 29X12.50-15 tires and 3.50 gears. It will be mostly street but a little 1/4 mile track.I want to hear the lope when I idle in to the cruise night but also want best 1/4 mile performance and still be good for street driving. I have never fooled with a roller cam so I need some suggestions. Also not too much lift for the stock heads unless really needed for good performance. Fuel economy is not a big concern. Thanks in advance.

Any hi perf roller cam will have enough lift to require that you modify the stock vortec heads to accomodate the valve lift.
Stock vortecs are limited to a max lift of .450" to .470"
Any camshaft that has a "Lope" at idle will require and torque converter swap to one with a higher stall. A cam lopes decasue it is inefficient at idle and low engine speed. A high stall converer allows the engine to idle easy in gear ans allow the engine to spool up past the low rpm band (where a lopey cam reduces power) to higher in the rpm range where it makes power.

If you're not willing to invest in a high stall converter, put a mild near stock cam in it.

Thanks Fbird. I did not mention a stall because I know it is needed with the cam swap and just did not think to mention it.I plan on running about a 2500 stall.

I have another 98 Vortec 350 but the heads where changed to GM 10088113 aluminum and it has a Holley street dominator intake with a 750 Edelbrock carb. If I have to pull the heads anyway, which is the better of the 2 on a stock 98 Vortec bottom end?
