Vortec 454 heads?

Are Vortec 454 heads better than the older 454 heads? Or is that just true for the small blocks?

I am thinking that I heard the Vortec 454 heads aren't any better but I cant remember for sure. I have 781s now, would like to switch to fuel injection and possibly some better heads if the Vortecs ARE better. Otherwise i'll slap on a TBI setup on my stock heads along with either the stock q-jet intake or an Edelbrock of some sort. Not really making this truck a high performance truck, just something to pull a trailer with So i'm not worried about a Vortec EFI setup being better, i'd just like to have the benefits of fuel injection because a carburetor just isn't gonna work for me. I can also get a TBI computer/wiring harness that is from a truck with a 4L80E which would give me the ability to have a 4L80E Cant beat that

Both Vortec 7400 heads (the '98-'01 12560241 and the '96-'01 10141279) are about 100cc, as a comparison. As you can see HERE, much care has to be used if porting these heads, they have a "peanut port" sized intake port w/a vane cast into the port as well.
If domed pistons are to be used, the chambers may need modification, and I know nada about that end of it- I'd suggest you do some serious research first if that's the plan.

The 781 and 049 heads are similar, so what was said above about the 049 heads apply to the 781's as well.

What are the specs of the short block you want to use?

It'd be a stock 73 454. I think the pistons were flat tops but I dont remember for sure.

I'm not saying for sure that im gonna put on these vortec heads, but its an option down the road if they are better than the 781s that i have.

For MY money, I'd use the 781 heads and never look back.

Then thats probably what i'll do. If it was a small block i am thinking it would be worth the swap but I dont really know personally about the big blocks. Thats why I had to ask.
