Vortec Engine in a 65 Impala
Was thinking of putting a 5.3 Vortec into my 65 impala. Anyone got any ya's, na's, gotcha's... I would put in the engine/trany computer... Probably from a 2k+ silverado. They seem fairly inexpensive and easily available and I've ran the 5.3 in my last 4 vehicles and like them a lot. Good little engines.
Whatdoyathink?

Sounds terrific to me. Have you been over to www.ls1tech.com to see if anyone else has done the same swap? Lots of good info over there.

I've been around other sites. I'll have to chack that one out. I was thinking of buying an entire truck. 2000-2002. You can get those around here for 2-3k. That way I can put a couple hundred mile on it to get a feel for what to expect from the tranny and the engine. You know, if it knocks, smokes, tranny slips... Plus I'd be sure to have ALL the harnesses, and whatever else I could need from the donor.

I dont know if u have started on your project but I have a 65 Impala that Im installing a 5.3 vortec from a 2004 Tahoe with a 4l60e transmission. I have also put disc brakes front and rear on my 65 and they came off a 1978 corvette (no mod needed). I will be glad to share all info I have and I plan to put together a youtube video to show how I put my car together. I plan to be finished with this car by summer of 2012.All the hard work and reaseach has been done.Im on the down hill slope after a four year climb.Cant wait to drive this car.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't started the Vortec part yet. Checkout my photos. I have some b4 and after. Been working on this 65 quite a while. This summer I drove it quite a bit. Nice.
A newer engine is just thoughts for it's future right now. Collecting info... Maybe next summer. We'll see how the money flows. I would be very much interested in your adventures in swap. I look forward to seeing and hearing more.

I like the idea but finding a 6.0L from a 3/4 ton would help that heavy chevy move a little better IMO

Ya.
But, if we're gonna go that far, may as well go for a 7.4 liter. Good old 454, that'll move the Impy.
