Post vortec engine in 85 monte

if i pulled all the computer stuff off a 99 5.7 vortec engine what would i have to go through to put it in? could i carburate it to make the prosess easier or what? I know some about engines but not about swapping them so anyhelp would be appreciated. thanks

what are you putting it in and you probably have to carberate it without the cpu.

It may not work since I believe the 85 monte carlo has a 305 in it. The 305's have 54'cc cumbutsion chambers. A 64'cc vortec cumbution chamber would give you a terrible compresion ratio, I think i calculated it once and it would be bellow 8 to 1 that low of an compresion ratio would give you bad power and bad economy. To make matters worse the 305 comes with a thin gasket so, that cancles out the option of putting a thin gasket on to raise compression ratio

Wops!! I seem to have read it wrong, i thought u wanted to put the hole heads on. If your not using the heads wanna sell them??

i think ill be using the heads but to clear things up i wanna swap the vortec for my 305

you want to replace the hole engine or just the heads with the vortec

haha yeah it is me, but yeah i do wanna use the whole vortec engine and replace my 305 and i was wondering how to do this

It would be easier to just carb the vortec engine when you move it over to the Monte. You could yank the whole wiring harness and ECM and keep the fuel injection, though. A lot of the aftermarket companies sell intake manifolds that use the vortec head bolt pattern.
