Vortec engine value

I have a shot at a 2001 sbc 4bolt main roller cam vortec heads, the guy said it has low miles but the crankshaft is broken, but the block is not hurt, I dont know what to expect to payfor the compleat enging( less intake) does anyone havea clue as to what I should offer Thanks in advance. JF

Depends on the extent of damage. Have you seen the insides? Most of these motors are from light duty pickup trucks and are not four bolt. A broken crank can really screw up the mains.

I have seen the engine with tne pan off it is a 4 bolt out of an express van the crank broke just in front of #2 main to the eye it looks fine but the linebore will need checking, What do you think, Thanks.

I would offer $125.00-150.00, I usually get the two bolt buildable cores for less than $75.00. Because the heads are usually cracked. But, if it is low milage and the heads are good you won't lose. The bone yard won't offer anything over weight value..

You can pick up a good late model vortec core for $100.00 all day long (GM core charge). Contact your local GM Dealer and ask someone in the parts dept. for an independent repair shop that recently purchased an engine. If you buy it from the dealer they will charge sales tax.

Thought I'd follow up my last post with a picture of my Chevy 5.7 Liter Vortec core. Hope the picture shows.

Yes it is. Anything after 1996 uses the Vortec heads.
