Vortec heads with high left capabilities
Can someone point me in the direction of a great place to buy a modified pair of Vortecs that will accept a higher lift cam? :confused: Perhaps ported as well (I can always port them myself but I don't have a flowbench) :( .

ap72, email privately - I have the whole kit (upgraded Vortec heads) etc. from Scoggin-Dickey's site that I am selling with less than 100 miles on them.

Vortec heads will take .500" lift No Problem with-out machining. It can be done for about $50 including the valve springs!!! Just take the inner dampener from stander 1.26" od valve springs {Z-28 or Edelbrocks} and remove the posi lock valve seals from the heads. replace the seals with Chrysler 2.2 valve seals from a turbo car and you are done!
The porting you can do easily if you have a steady hand, the Vortecs need little from the factory, just a basic clean-up to make good power!

The edelbrock E-Tec heads will handle .575 lift

I Have Always Been Into Mud Bogging(just For Fun) And Some Street Use(have To Beat All Imports, Or Try To :) And I Am Starting Out With A Stock 350 From Factory. It Has Probably 8 Or 9k Miles On It Already. I Just Purchased A Set Of Bare Ls1 Heads, And Looking Into Rebuilding Those. I Also Have A Pair Of 3/4 Ton Axles On The Way That I Am Going To Put 4.56's In. I Want Alot Of Low End Torque W/ Mild Hp. Nothing Crazy. I Have A Close Budget. I Need Help With Easy Stuff That Will Get Me Going. Thanks.

I hope your 350 is a LS1 also, otherwise the heads won`t work too well being there reverse flow cooled along with all the other changes GM made to`em compared to older heads.

I recently bought a set of 062's from Ebay. I stripped them down, bought new +.100 valves, hand lapped them in, a tool tool that Comp makes to cut the seal boss to take a .530 teflon seal, ( their height is lower) , 600 lift springs and ended up at 1.830 installed height. I then changed the locks to -.030 to bring the height down to 1.800 which gives me a .650 max lift. I'm not sure whether to put in screw in studs or just pin them like we use to do. this is my first do it your self valve job!. I guess it should work.

Yeah, those LS1 heads are pretty good from the factory, the LS6 heads are even better. Theres just one problem...the LS1 heads do not interchange with the older small blocks. LS1s have four head bolts around each cylinder, Gen Is and IIs have five.
