Vortec Heads or ??? for SBC

I own a pair of bare double hump heads. I gave them to a pal ten years ago. He didn't use'em and will give'em back...... when I drive 600 miles one way to get'em. He seems oblivous to the fact he could ship'em.

Where can I buy hardened seats for these heads? There were some on ebay - supposedly Manleys, but the picture of the Manley boxes were selectively arranged to avoid showing the part number. I suspect they're just old replacement seats and not really hardened.... and maybe not even Manley

I know almost nothing about Vortec heads. I have a 350 SBC with a Weiand 6-71 blower manifold. Are there adaptors available to put the manifold on the Vortec heads? Do I need adaptors? Can I machine the heads for my blower manifold or manifold for the heads? If adaptors are avaialble, if I see them I may be able to make them.

Any and all suggestions are welcomed.

As far as I know there is no intake for a 671 and vortec heads yet. (I'm waiting also)
You would be better off with some other entry level aftermarket conventional head for your 671 project than messing with old camel backs that need this that and the $$$other$$.

Edelbrock, Dart, Brodix, WP, RHS, EQ, GM bowtie ,,lots of good choices.

For a low compression street blower motor you want to start with a large chamber head anyways.

Camel humps were the best that chevy could muster.... in 1967. They are ancient technology that is only marginally better than the worst smogger head from 1980.

Under 450 hp naturally aspirated, there is almost nothing that will beat Vortecs from a bang-for-buck perspective. Highly efficient chambers, excellent flow-to-velocity trade-off, cheap as hell.

But, you will need a vortec-specific intake. The only one I know of so far is by Weiand for their 142 blower.

Edit: but in answer to your other question - no, there is no practical way to modify an old intake to fit vortec heads. The Vortec ports are taller and the old manifold won't cover them. Not to mention the bolt pattern is completely different.

Any automotive machine shop will stock replacement seats. I have drawers of them from one inch to 2.5 inches.

Manley is a manufacturer of hard seats. Along with several others. SBI, Qualcast, Fed-Mogul, etc.
