Vortec Heads, and standard intake.

Is there anyway possible to put vortec heads on, and use a standard intake?

I've heard you can re drill the degree of the intake and the bolt holes will work?
or is it best while spending money to go with the vortec style intake?

Thanks,
Scott

Using a Vortec-specific intake manifold is the only way to get the ports to line up properly and seal with the gasket. Of course you can make anything fit anything if you have enough determination, but that doesn't make it right.

The head can be drilled and tapped for the old pattern but the material is thin in the area of the new holes and this thin-ness leaves only a few threads in the holes making them prone to stripping easily. There is also an issue with the taller shape of the Vortec intake port and some older intakes are not tall enough to properly cover the port allowing an instant vacuum leak, or a possibilty of one.

The correct Vortec bolt pattern intake is a much better idea all around.

There are aftermarket Vortec-port style heads with both bolt patterns but they are cast thick enough for the thread stripping to not be an issue, although the port hieght can still be an issue depending on the old intake used.
