im trying to pick a cam for my vortec headed small block. Iwas wondering fi .420 lift is the absolute max lift with the stock springs i can run. Iwas wanting run one of the new lunati voodoo cams with these heads in stock form, the car is going to be daily driven.

.480 is the max. I verified that question through G.M. when I bought my vortec heads a few yrs ago.

Thank you for your reply, i've done numberous research since buying the heads, only to find that most people were very conservative. I pulled the springs off and checked them and came up with clearence for around .480, but was doubting my abilities for 1 second.

If you do run .480" check for coil bind once the cam is installed. It only takes a few more minutes and it is cheap insurance.

yeah .480 is the standardized max. as mentioned, check coil bind. and if you want to run a bigger cam than .480 then you can have a machine shop do a little cutting to make it work for you. i think there are a few online shops that sell them ready for .520 lift
